Suzanne McCarthy held several senior positions during her executive career including   Immigration Services Commissioner and Chief Executive of both the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.  During her Whitehall career she worked at both HM Treasury and the Home Office (where she served as Private Secretary to two Home Secretaries).

Suzanne is Chair of Depaul UK, a charity concerned with youth homelessness.  She is currently Chair of the Fire Standards Board, the Audit Panel of the Mayor's Office of Policing and Crime and the Metropolitan Police, Vice Chair of the Valuation Tribunal Service and a member of the Fundraising Regulator, the Advertising Standards Authority and the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority.  In addition, she serves as the Independent Appointed Person for the Greater London Authority.

Her previous Board appointments include the University of London, the Royal Institute of British Architects and the General Medical Council.

Before entering the public sector, Suzanne worked as a solicitor in private practice and was a lecturer in Law at the University of Manchester.  Suzanne studied both in America and in the UK, and holds an LL.M. degree from the University of Cambridge.
